After cities and temples we were excited to have a little beach time. Our first stop was Krabi which does not have any beaches of its own but there are several close by longtail-boat. We decided on Laem Phra Nang (Railay) beach which is only accessible by boat due to the sheer limestone cliffs. The beaches had pure white sand and the ocean was emerald in color. Halfway through our beach day it started to rain but we made the most of it at a local hut restaurant where we enjoyed fresh seafood and frozen drinks.

Krabi is also famous for kayaking tours through the mangroves and dramatic limestone cliffs. There were magnificent tidal lagoons, hongs, hidden inside the limestone karsts. It was a fantastic experience that even non-athletic Justyne enjoyed. We stopped at a sandbar and were able to play with the starfish and crabs and even had a monkey jump on our kayak. We also saw some walking fish. Yes, they actually get on the sand and walk around!

Where we stayed, Chan-Cha-Lay, we had a squeaky clean triple room with a bathroom and a balcony and air-con for about $30 in the center of town and a short walk to the pier. The property had great breakfast in the restaurant downstairs and was helpful with local attractions. They had travel inspirations written everywhere, this was one of my favorites “Travel is more than the seeing of sites; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.”
