Journey of Sydney, Australia: We made it!

A month later than intended we finally made it to Sydney, Australia! Our first night we stayed in Bondi Beach which allowed us to wake up early and complete the Bondi to Coogee Walk. It’s a leisurely 4-mile walk along the ocean with several beaches to stop and cool off and grab a bite to eat.

The next day we headed into the city to finally see the iconic Sydney Harbor Bridge and Opera House. We opted not to climb the bridge but instead take a leisurely stroll across. After we did a historical walk of the Rocks district and of course stopped for some ice-cold beer at one of the oldest pubs in Sydney. We returned later that night to see the bridge and opera house all lit up. I got all dolled up thinking we would have a romantic stroll, drink or dessert. Jon got off the bus walked 20 feet saw it and said are you ready to go? I have a romantic one here ladies.

We also enjoyed a scenic ferry through the harbor over to the suburb of Manly where we soaked in some Australian beach and sun.

The only thing I missed was seeing a show at the Sydney Opera House. The tickets are outrageously expensive, starting at upwards of $200 each, but they do have last minute seats day of. The day we were going to leave we rushed to the opera house only to find out that the tickets were sold out. Oh well, next time.

Because we waited until we arrived at the airport to book a room we had a little trouble. Normally waiting is not a problem but because it was Halloween weekend and Sydney is such an expensive city there was not much availability. The first night we stayed at Lamrock Lodge in Bondi Bay. We had a private room with a shared bathroom for about $52 A night. The hostel was not much to write home about and trying to find and available bathroom was a task but the location could not be more perfect.

The next three nights we stayed in a suburb called Randwick at Alison Lodge Which was about a 30-minute bus ride from the city. We had a large, luxurious, private room with a shared bathroom for about $75 a night. This was by far the nicest room we have had since the start of our trip. There was a wonderful selection of reasonably priced restaurants close by.
